Does anyone else out there use an office suite app, and if so, which works best for you? I have 3 on my Asus tablet now.

1. The device came with Polaris Office so it was free to me. I can't even find it in the Google Play store or the Amazon App Store.

I found that out of all the office suite apps I've tried that will open a document with a Microsoft Office extension, this is the only one where the document looks the same as the way you created it on your computer. If I make a word doc, PDF or a Power Point, it will open it and work and read pretty much as well as you would hope. The problem is, it seems pretty light on the creative side. Making these docs on the go is necessary sometimes in my business.

2. Quick Office Pro was supposed to be $10.99 on the Amazon App Store but I snagged it the day it came up as the free app of the day so it didn't cost me a dime. It is pretty feature rich. It can even do mail merge functions to create labels and that sort of thing it looks like. (I see the buttons to do it, but haven't tried it.) The problem is the inverse of Polaris. When you make a doc on your computer and try to open it in Quick Office Pro, the document is a jumble. Inserted pictures are misaligned, the text size seems to change on it's own, and the page breaks seem to reset to 8.5x11 no matter what your original document was set as.

It takes a lot of retooling to get it to look like your original document again. If you are using a straight text doc, I suppose it's ok, but it's rather frustrating to have to completely realign everything on the page if you have anything more complex than that.

3. I just yesterday found the 3rd. It is called Kingsoft Office. It is free in the Google Play Store and was rated 4.5 stars by the reviewers. There were probably 20 or 30 reviews if I recall.

Free is awesome and the docs open cleanly. Like Polaris, the work was easy to find in the file menu as well. Again though, like Polaris, this one seemed a little light on functionality. I mean, it probably has as much functionality as say, MS Office 2003, but it is sort of light by today's standards.

So to summarize; it seems like they all have strengths and weaknesses. It seems like the developers of these office environments are sort of overlooking tablet users and still gearing apps toward the phone market. A tablet, especially one with a keyboard doc like the Transformer, Toshiba Thrive, Galaxy Tab, et al... is rapidly becoming the business tool of choice for a lot of professionals. It would be more so if the office environment could supplant the laptop or desktop for presentations on the go. Sometimes, you just want to be confident that the doc you created and emailed to someone is going to look the same way on their laptop or desktop though.

Thoughts?

I have tried a lot of Office apps on my galaxy tab, none of them seem to have what i was looking for at the time so i moved on

Polaris Office came with my tablet

Documents to Go was the free app of the day at one point

Im using Office Suite Pro right now, it was on sale at some point for 99 cents and for the large part it is my favorite. it does all the formats i need to

Hmm... I just looked at Office Suite Pro in the Play store. It costs $14.99 and the first two reviews warned that if you transfer docs between desktop and tablet the docs lose formatting. A lot of people were praising the interface and ease of use but I need to be able to send docs back and forth between my tablet and PC and to other people's PCs and know they will get the attachment without it being all disjointed. For 99 cents I would try it. For $14.99 it isn't likely. Thatnks for the reply though bdfull.

Well that's awesome that you found that. I appreciate you posting it for me. The most exciting thing would be to get MS Office for tablets. Despite being vastly over-priced, it is the standard for business use. I also realized from the link you provided that I am not using the HD version of Quick Office Pro. Maybe that explains all the formatting problems I'm having with it. If I import a Word doc into QOP, you can pretty much count on any inserted graphics or charts going just where the hell ever they want. I think if the HD version was designed for tablets it may solve that issue. At the very least, it warrants further investigation.

Hey, good lookin' out man. Thanks for the lead.

I got the office suite pro special for 99 cents. I just used it to view a powerpoint from last semester and it looked really good. I haven't had time to play with this but so far so good for less than one dollar

Did you get the HD version? For that matter, are you using it on a tablet or on your phone?

Excellent. Yeah, I'm given to understand that this is the vesion to use for a tablet. Every review I've read since I made the original post comes back to this one, but if you get the tablet you need the HD version. The HD version optimizes the word controls for a wider screen and all that I guess. It's $14.99. I guess I'll have to pick it up payday.
