RoyAlugbue
It's officially here folks!!! You folks excited for the Nexus 7 tablet?!? I wrote an article saying I would keep my Xoom for the immediate future, but I might have to splurge and buy one of these suckers! http://www.talkandroid.com/119079-google-announces-the-nexus-7-tablet-with-jelly-bean-built-and-optimized-for-the-play-store/ https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_7_16gb Anyone else grabbing it?! Nothing like a 12-core processor to strike your fancy!
RobNazarian
It's a great deal, but the 8GB concerns me plus I never use my tablet. For casual browsing and stuff I still find it easier to grab my phone which is always in my pocket. No it's not 7 or 10 inches, but it's 4.65-inches and does the job. Here's my take. ASUS is about to release the Transformer Infinity and will price it for $499 (same as the current price of the Prime). I believe they will drop the Prime down to $399, which is where the TF300 happens to be. I think that will drop that one down to $299. $299 for that is a smoking deal when you consider it's 10.1-inches and has the full Tegra 3, not the Kai version. Plus you will get 32GB of storage and a SD card slot. That's only $50 more than the Nexus 7 16GB version. Now this all my guess as far as pricing goes, we will see. They really don't have a choice with the way Google is pricing the Nexus 7 (that goes for all manufacturers). The other thing is Jelly Bean. Some will say that it's on the Nexus 7, but trust me ASUS is going to update to Jelly Bean pretty quickly. They were one of the first manufacturers to upgrade to ICS and the same will happen with Jelly Bean. I think the Transformers will have it by August for sure. Psywar
I personally think 8GB will be fine.. Everything is going Cloud Base. Right now I have most of my Music Collection on Google's Cloud so I don't even need any space on my phone for it. I have an iPad 16gb and I think I have only used 2gigs worth of space on that. My iPod Touch I use for the Freezer at work to listen to music only has 8GB and I have used 5GB of it.. Most of it is full of tracks/playlist I wont ever even listen to. I dunno my opinion is for $199 bucks you cant go wrong for a Toy Tablet. I would like to get my hands on that Nexus Q though.. You guys should get one and give it away to me to review.. :P
RobNazarian
Well I would tend to agree with you as I'm using the cloud a lot, but when it comes to a tablet, it's about the movies for me and my son. I can't make that cloud based especially since he uses it where I don't have a WiFi connection. For example, on my Transformer I have easily about 25GB of movies and shows on their for him. I guess the answer would be to not let him use it, but like I mentioned before I don't use tablets much so then it will end up sitting there all alone. Psywar
That's a good point. I never really thought of that. I don't really use my tablet for much more than making music with it. I could see using it on a plane trip somewhere for vacation for movies though.
RobNazarian
I think tablets make a lot of sense for travelers for watching content. I also think it's great for those that like to game a lot, but for the casual person just wanting to look at Facebook, some web browsing, emails, and stuff like that, it just doesn't make a lot of sense. Still at $199, I guess you can't really go wrong though.
Redemption
I think 8GB is perfect for casual users. I am considering getting one for my parents. I've been using my Sony Tablet S on the train and I find that the biggest problem is that its way too bulky. I do prefer to use a tablet to surf than using a phone. I'm not even sure I'd enjoy surfing on a 5" phablet phone. So it might make sense for me to use a 7" really portable tablet and a smaller phone. RobNazarian
Yes, 1 years ago, it cost like $400 to $600 to get a decent tablet so to me it never made sense. But $199/$249 is a different story especially when you're getting high end hardware.
bdfull3r
The idea of a $200 quad core tablet simply is mind boggling to me. My galaxy tab was $500 for a mid range dual core tegra 2. I know it is smaller but I am really considering a trade in.
RobNazarian
I'm still confident the Transformer TF300 will drop to $299, which might actually be more appealing with the 10-inch display and more storage. It also has a better Tegra 3 chip (not the Kai).
