Nike+ FuelBand Unboxing

I recently got the Nike+ FuelBand in the mail and I know some of you had some questions about it. I filmed a short unboxing so you could check it out and if you have any questions this would be the place to ask them. I might also do a quick review here after I use it for a bit. Also the Nike web page is down so I can't monitor my progress quite yet <_ we will see if this thing is really worth>

Pretty Slick dude!

Hefty price though.. I could dig wearing it though.

How long is the battery life on it, do you know?

Also I assume it sync's up with the Nike+ app? Can you do a video of how the app might work in sync with the bracelet?

I like it!

Nike just sent me one to use, but unfortunately no Android app to try with it. This is my first day with it and I'm not sure how this thing works. I went on the elliptical machine for about 25 minutes and my Fuel was at 1016 just before I started. It only went up to about 1060 after the workout. Somehow I got over 1,000 Fuel (before my workout) doing pretty much nothing all day. Somehow I'm gaining more Fuel eating pancakes.

Attached is my stats for today so far and, it's funny, the peak around 4:42pm was when I was playing chase with my 3-year old son. When I was on the elliptical it barely increased. Maybe it just doesn't pick that up. You can see both events in the attached picture.

Also, since the fuelband can connect directly into the USB slot on the computer, it would've been nice to see some storage on it for convenience.

Interesting Rob..

I wonder if the bracelet has a GPS monitor in it which is maybe why it was able to track your movement with chasing your son.

Or If it works like any pedometer I have used in the past (especially since it is on your arm instead of your hip) moving your arms on the elliptical did not really jar the bracelet enough to count as a "step".

So running around after your son would put a ton of movement/force on your arms causing it to actually count your steps while the the easier motion on the elliptical might not.

I have actually had a hard time finding anything that will keep track of my workout on an elliptical. Even my hip pedometer sometimes wont count a step or a stride.

That's actually the wonderful thing about the elliptical is there is virtually no impact or jarring on your body from using one.

I'd really like to get one of these for work. My Pedometer does not work with my freezer suit on. It would be cool to see how much moving I really do in a full day's work.

EDIT: I just checked Android Market

I see Nike Boom, but I do not see Nike+

I thought it came with my HTC Evo but I checked my iPod Touch and it seems it was on my iPod.. So apparently Nike does not have a Nike+ App for Android.

So now I am curious if Stacy got some sort of app to use to keep track of all that stuff.

I really like the fuel band design. It looks nice, functional, and unobtrusive. I bike everyday and was wondering if the fuel band had any capability in this regard. I don't see how it would though really, unless it judges by pulse? Rob, were you particularly excited to be eating pancakes?!

I've really been wanting to get my hands on a MotoACTV for biking aspect, but the fuel band seems nicer otherwise, not to mention the price point of the band is more where I wish the MotoACTV were. Luckily I do have Kinect for 360 and have really enjoyed Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. Like the fuel band, the game employs that progress bar, which I have found to repeatedly push me "just a little bit further!"

Looking forward to longer lasting, thinner, sleeker, MotoACTV 2 (still with unlocked bootloader).

I agree Jim, the design is great and I don't want to lock myself into a watch where this can be worn on my opposite wrist. As to biking (and elliptical), not looking good. This tweet just came through from @NikeFuel - @KimberlyYow1 Since the Nike+ FuelBand is optimized for wrist-based movements, we don't recommend use when cycling. They actually have tweeted this several times to several different people.

Bah!

Seems like a design flaw to me then lol!

I need to find something for Kayaking.

I use Runkeeper on my Android for when I go jogging to log my miles and what not. I have emailed them asking them to add in a Kayaking feature lol. I don't foresee it happening.

No Android app as of yet, but I just received an email from Nike saying they have another supply of limited stock for those who want to try one out. I think there is a generous return period if you sign up to become a Nike member. If you want one you better act fast! As expensive as they are they sure go quick..

I got the same email, but it's for tomorrow 2/29 at 5:00pm EST and the nike.com store.

I really like it, but am disappointed that it's only based on movement. I guess people who like to masturbate a lot will definitely be happy with it. In all seriousness, this is supposed to promote working out or tracking anything that is considered an exercise. So when I mow the lawn this summer (and yes walking not a tractor), I won't gain any fuel. It doesn't make any sense.

I suspect this is going to be a big complaint with this version and they might come out with another edition later in the year. Also depending on the success of it, I would think they will start offering more colors. I personally wouldn't want any other colors, but I could see people getting into that. The overall design is great through, if they could just perfect it.
