How do I find data-draining apps?

Hi,

Hubby and I recently got matching Moto Atrix 2s on a small data plan (300 mb) because we thought we would not be using much data. After one month, I used less than 10% while Hubby went over by a few MB (just enough to cost an extra $20).

We both have Onavo installed, but we can't figure out what's sucking up the data on his phone. I made sure Bluetooth is off and that helped somewhat ... but he's still burning data. What can we do to find the hungry app and uninstall or turn it off before he goes over his plan again?

Thanks for any and all ideas,

Have you tried "My Data Manager"?

Its a free app but has ads.

Here is a link to the Play Store page: https://play.google....dia.android.mdm

You can also try 3gwatchdog to monitor your data usage, but the advanced usage details are only available in the paid version.

Try the free version first: https://play.google....roid.g3watchdog

I used to have 3gwatchdog's widget on my homescreen to monitor my data usage.

Check if you have any widgets like weather forecast added to your homescreen, and you can disable automatic refreshing. Also you should go to Google Play (your mobile app), press menu button, choose settings, and check off "Automatic updates", and check "Updates with wifi only" or something like this. It will save some data.

Widgets can drain a lit of data. streaming youtube. pandora. google music etc will kill data and battery really quickly. Emails could hurt if there are a lot of them or if they are particularry big ones. i can tell 300 MB is moronically low. i will jlast through that in a couple days, much less a monthm

most likely it is a combination

Go to Google play.... there are some apps for different category. like videos, audio, photos..... And remember, just one minute of video uses up 2 megabytes. If you watch two five minute music video every day on a 300 MB plan, you’ll use up your plan allowance halfway through the month. Avoid using video apps on your phone at all costs.
