ROM flash reboot yields no command error

I followed the custom rom procedure at this link

How to make your own Android ROM

To create a jelly bean 4.3 ROM for my RCA tablet. I chose a starting ROM for a similarly equipped nook tablet since there were no RCA tablet Roms available.

Everything went fine, including backing up my rooted stock ROM using the nandroid backup app. I've tried nandroid manager and auto flasher to install the zip format ROM I created, but all I get when these utilities restart the device is the "dead" android guy with a warning triangle and No Command under him.

Note that I couldn't find any CWM or TWRP recovery files for this device, so I've been searching for a working method to flash without recovery. No luck yet...

Can anyone help?
