Adjust time automatically

My Xperia Z tablet is apparently not syncing time with Internet time servers, thus the clock shifts some minutes every few weeks. It has a "Use network-provided values" setting I've checked, but it hasn't changed anything (I suspect "network" might refer to the phone line, but it's a wifi-only tablet!).

In a regular Linux computer I'd simply run the ntp client with cron but I'm totally clueless about Android. There're endless apps to sync time in Google Play but they all require to have the device rooted. I'm not willing to crack into a 400 € gadget and void warranty just to get a basic feature.

Is there a sensible way to have time automatically adjusted?
