Hey all, I recently bought a cable that should (I have herd) allow me to connect USB accessories. I tried a flash drive and it did not work.** When I google "Nexus 7 USB accessories I say OTG cables (which I have) and cases up to wazzo for sale Not what I need right now.

Are only certain things like keyboards (have not tried that yet) supported?

The idea here is to be able to plug in a memory card or DSLR and upload directly to social media.

Well, @injijagwalafq I am not sure if this will help you in clearing your doubts but as far as I am getting things  you are trying to connect DSLR or memory card over to your nexus7. Anyway but I don't think that DSLR can be directly connected to your Nexus7 and as far as the flash drives are concerned it can be connected through OTG cable, what you need to do is get and OTG cable and connect your flash drive. It should do the work for you also you also need to install file manager over your Nexus 7, there are some decent file manager apps available over the Google PlayStore to choose from like ES-File Explorer, can also try Nexus USB OTG File manager. See if this works out for you ! :)
