RYEarle
I have a small blue shield that just appeared at the top left corner of my screen today. Does anyone have any idea what it is? It's about half the size of a notification icon but it isn't on the notification bar, it's just below the notification bar on the upper right corner of my screen. It's a small blue shield. I can't click it or do anything with it, it doesn't seem related to any of my security software. I'd like to know what it is and how to remove it if it serves no real purpose. Ive attached a screenshot - it's the little blue icon in the very upper left of my screen. Any help would be VERY much appreciated.
rosario1990
When this problem has shown. Did you install anything new onto your phone?
RYEarle
No, no new software - just popped on the screen the other morning and nobody seems to be able to tell me what it's even tied to.

RYEarle
UPDATE:This seems to have been tied to some kind of adware on my system. I was getting a bunch of pop-ups and other weird activity, so i deleted all my browser history because I don't install any software from external apks. Now the shield has vanished and hopefully all the adware too.

BradW
Yeah - that is most definitely AdWare. One thing you could do on your smartphone to help protect against that in the future is downloading AVG or Avast antivirus. If anything, they're great for making sure AdWare isn't on your system, which can so easily happen.
RYEarle
Actually none of those have been effective against this type of adware, I've tried them all and am actually a proponent of MalwareBytes on PC systems - but it is ineffective on my phone against this sort of adware and junkware. The only thing that's ever really worked is either clearing out the cache / memory from my browser OR a complete factory reset. I've been unable to find any adware / malware apps that effectively take care of mobi type adware problems on android :( And I've tried almost all of them. The closest I've found are Secore and Lookout ad detector - they do good at identifying the apps that are pushing out adware but even they don't detect or eliminate the stuff like this blue shield or the mobi ads.
